Behind Spring fed media
My name is Michael Sherman and I’m the owner and operator of Spring Fed Media. I’ve been creating videos and photos professionally since 2010 and established the business Spring Fed Media in 2018. Growing up in the rural McKenzie River community opened my eyes to our connection to the natural world and the challenges we face together, especially after the 2020 Labor Day Fires.
Using my photography and video skills to better these places and give back to our communities has always been the goal. Tools like drones, timelapse photography, and underwater camera housings have opened doors for more powerful storytelling and sharing these important messages.
My goal is to capture and tell stories in more remote locations where many others aren’t able to reach. By utilizing satellite images and cross referencing maps, we can search out the best locations for each project. This kind of challenge requires planning, lightweight and advanced camera equipment, and physical training to make even the hardest days feel normal.
Gaining past experience and knowledge from years of long-distance running, backpacking, and 4 summers of wildland firefighting with the US Forest Service has been invaluable. It has fostered a driving work ethic, leadership, navigation and other outdoor skills, along with a passion for both nature and wildfire ecology. Being able to infuse digital media with my many passions has opened doors for creative storytelling about these and many other complex topics.
It’s my belief that in order to fully tell a story, we must first seek to understand the people, places, and history contributing to that story. Continual learning and growth as an individual and a business, fuel my passion for storytelling and creating captivating visuals.
With a background in reality TV capture and field producing, I have experience coaching and working with people who have never been on camera before. We can follow the action as it happens and work with individuals to bring out the best version of themselves. As the owner and operator of Spring Fed Media, I head up all of the projects. When I say "WE" I am referring to the many trusted and talented local professionals hired onto projects as needed. It's no secret that no one can do everything on their own, so having a network of specialized people to call on is essential.
